The French Immersion Teacher provides instruction in French across core subjects—including Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math—while fostering bilingualism, academic growth, and cultural appreciation. The teacher plans engaging lessons, assesses student progress, and creates a safe and inclusive classroom environment where students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

  • Teach curriculum subjects in French, following provincial/state curriculum outcomes.
  • Integrate effective second-language acquisition strategies to support student fluency and literacy.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including English Language Learners and students with exceptionalities.
  • Develop and implement unit plans, daily lessons, and learning activities that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and technology tools to enhance engagement and comprehension.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, both oral and written.
  • Provide timely feedback to students to support their academic growth.
  • Communicate progress to parents/guardians through conferences, report cards, and ongoing updates.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom climate.
  • Promote student independence, collaboration, and responsibility.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that support respectful behavior and active learning.
  • Support students’ social and emotional development and respond to individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the English partner teacher, support staff, and colleagues to ensure program alignment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school committees.
  • Communicate effectively with families and build strong home–school partnerships.
  • Contribute to school events, extracurricular activities, and community initiatives as needed.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with elementary-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • South Carolina certification in Elementary Education with a passing score on the French exam or relevant certification with the South Carolina State Department of Education
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
  • Familiar with educational technology tools
  • Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
