Alaska Marine Trucking provides and manages local freight distribution services in Alaska which includes loading, unloading, warehousing, pickup and delivery. Alaska Marine Trucking works closely with Alaska Marine Lines in coastal communities throughout Southeast, Central, and Western Alaska. We currently have an opening for a Freight Operations in Naknek, Alaska. This is a Seasonal full-time position which offers family friendly benefits, a competitive pay package and professional growth. Food and lodging provided during the duration of the season.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One-to-three months of work-related experience and/or training in general freight operations.
  • Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as bills of ladings, tariffs, delivery receipts, military documents, procedure manuals, employee and safety manuals, and routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively and clearly with customers, vendors, managers, and other employees.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure and handle demanding customer needs.
  • Ability to handle hazardous freight per company and regulatory specifications.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to organize and follow through to completion projects and tasks assigned or assumed.
  • Detail oriented, good communication and interpersonal skills, and good organizational skills.
  • Basic computer program skills: Navigator and Sutwik; and Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Visio and Outlook.
  • Ability to be certified to operate forklifts ranging from 2.5t to 52t.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years of freight operations experience.
  • CDL is required in many ports.

Responsibilities

  • Secures, unloads and loads breakbulk and less-than container load (LCL) freight with a variety of equipment including banding, dunnage, lumber, binders and chains.
  • Operates a warehouse forklift.
  • Supports operations by working on the deck of the barge to set and pull cones, secure containers and other equipment to the deck of the barge and assist operators as needed.
  • Generally involved with the process of receiving and distributing freight to and from customers at the working facility.
  • Assist in the maintenance of company property and general facility housekeeping duties.
