About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and plant equipment across all production lines, including freezer and refrigeration systems. This role ensures equipment reliability, leads a team of maintenance personnel, promotes a safe working environment, and supports efficient, compliant, and profitable plant operations. The supervisor also manages computerized maintenance planning systems, oversees the parts department, and serves as acting manager during periods of managerial absence.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or processing environment.
  • 2–3 years of supervisory or lead technician experience overseeing maintenance personnel.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, packaging, processing, material-handling, and refrigeration systems.
  • Prior knowledge of PSM/RMP requirements and ammonia/refrigeration safety guidelines.
  • Experience with CMMS planning; AS400 experience a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • Proven commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all production and refrigeration equipment.
  • Responds promptly to production line and freezer system breakdowns, ensuring timely, safe, and effective repairs that minimize downtime.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs, including freezer and ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Plans and manages maintenance activities using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System); AS400 experience is considered a plus.
  • Oversees the parts department, ensuring proper inventory control, availability of critical spares, and efficient procurement processes.
  • Monitors equipment performance and identifies opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety across both production and cold storage operations.
  • Develops and recommends capital improvement projects that enhance operational performance and profitability.
  • Supervises hourly maintenance employees, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plant standards.
  • Provides training, guidance, and coaching to maintenance and sanitation personnel, ensuring safe working practices are consistently followed.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and provides ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Recommends and, when appropriate, administers disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
  • Reviews and approves employee timesheets and attendance records in alignment with HR procedures.
  • Leads employee safety orientation, training, and reinforcement of safe work practices.
  • Identifies, corrects, and helps prevent unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions.
  • Investigates workplace accidents and collaborates with HR and management to implement corrective actions.
  • Assists in maintaining OSHA compliance through proper documentation, equipment maintenance, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Program) requirements for ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry guidelines and regulatory standards for ammonia/refrigeration safety and operations.
  • Reports unusual conditions, equipment concerns, personnel issues, or material problems to management.
  • Serves as acting Maintenance Manager during periods of managerial travel or absence.
  • Collaborates with HR to promptly investigate and help resolve employee grievances.
  • Maintains open communication with production, sanitation, and other departments to support smooth plant operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
