About The Position

WSP is seeking a full-time Freeway Shift Supervisor - Traffic Management that will work out of Bradenton, FL! The Shift Supervisor is responsible for all Operations Floor activities during their shift, following FDOT District 1 policies and procedures, including the District 1 TMC Operations SOP. Responsibilities include posting detour routes in FL511, carrying out all tasks as detailed in the District 1 TMC Operations SOP, and being the central contact for communications with external agencies during their shift. The Shift Supervisor will assist the TMC Operations Manager in coordinating information flow within the Operations room and facilitate response to disasters and high-profile special events affecting traffic. They will provide quality assurance on the day-to-day handling of all events in the operations room, including 511, and facilitate information exchange between RTMC/STMC operators and law enforcement dispatch personnel. The Shift Supervisor will monitor and report any internal and external system irregularities and provide general information to the Department and media as requested. They will also be responsible for daily scheduling of breaks for operations room staff, maintenance checks of the system, training of operators, and ensuring all equipment outages are reported. The Shift Supervisor will support operations during Emergency Shoulder Use (ESU) and ensure all data generated by the operations room is concise and timely.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Operator in a TMC or similar facility.
  • Extensive knowledge of the SunGuide Software and related systems.
  • Knowledge of Central Signal Systems.
  • Knowledge of ITS principles.
  • Skills in leadership and interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information over a radio system or network.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in non-technical language.
  • Ability and willingness to work alternate work schedules and be 'on-call' 24 hours/day.
  • Skills in the use of freeway management and ATMS applications.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to coordinate real-time activities and priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Approval from FDOT for experience substitution for minimum requirements.
  • Successful completion of the Joint Task Force (JTF) for Law Enforcement communications application for security clearance to the State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS).
  • Pass a biannual drug screening and a biennial criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all Operations Floor activities during their shift.
  • Follow FDOT District 1 policies and procedures, including the District 1 TMC Operations SOP.
  • Post detour routes in FL511.
  • Assist the TMC Operations Manager in coordinating information flow within the Operations room.
  • Facilitate response to disasters and high-profile special events affecting traffic.
  • Provide quality assurance on the day-to-day handling of all events in the operations room.
  • Facilitate information exchange between RTMC/STMC operators and law enforcement dispatch personnel.
  • Monitor and report any internal and external system irregularities.
  • Provide general information and coordinate with District PIO to provide media with non-confidential information.
  • Receive information on related roadwork, major accidents, etc.
  • Generate reports and data including reports, telephone logs, operator performance, incident reports.
  • Schedule all breaks for operations room staff.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks of the system and all ITS field devices.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the inventory database for all equipment.
  • Assist in the training of the operators and certification process documentation.
  • Coordinate ITS field devices repair and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all equipment outages are reported via the 'Help Desk' system.
  • Support operation during Emergency Shoulder Use (ESU).
  • Ensure all data generated and disseminated by the operations room is concise and timely.
  • Facilitate proper Road Ranger dispatching and quality assurance during Road Ranger assists.
  • Coordinate with FDOT and/or FHP for proper Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) Vendor dispatching.
  • Log all activities and timestamps into the SunGuide database.
  • Ensure all alert messages and notifications are properly formatted and reviewed for accuracy.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Department.
