Fox Sports is seeking a skilled Freelance Live Production Engineer to join our team in Los Angeles. The Freelance Live Production Engineer will be responsible for supporting stage and production workflows for live sporting events, ensuring seamless operation of technical systems. This role requires extensive knowledge of production systems, including intercom, production switchers, cameras, monitors, virtual set systems, AR, VR, XR, on-screen graphics, and audio workflows. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This position will be filled as a NABET 53 Union representative.

  • Maintain and support live production and post-production equipment in both on-air and off-air television environments
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of technical systems during live events
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize disruptions during broadcasts
  • Document necessary changes to the production environment and report daily tasks in a ticketing/trouble logging system
  • Assist in the setup and configuration of stage equipment for live sporting events
  • Provide written and verbal reports or instructions to peers, management, and clients
  • Perform emergency and preventative maintenance on all systems and train fellow engineers or operators as needed
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for broadcast engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a live television environment
  • Experience setting up 1080p HDR & 4K production workflows
  • Experience with SDR and HDR color space
  • Experience with Mac and PC, possessing skills related to file-based workflows, including knowledge of video codecs, audio codecs, transcoding, and file movement
  • Knowledge of Evertz Magnum, SDVN, NMOS, and other routing protocols, experience with Grass Valley and Ross Switchers, Calrec Audio Consoles, Riedel intercom, and EVS replay
  • Extensive knowledge of live production workflow dealing with production switchers, audio consoles, intercom systems, wireless audio, cameras, server-based playout, graphics generators, AR, VR, and XR systems
  • Professional-level IT skillset, including networking, software, and Linux/Windows operating system knowledge
  • Understanding of on-air sports environments and ability to maintain and troubleshoot issues with advanced studio production equipment
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision; must be a self-motivated self-starter who can initiate ideas
  • Solid understanding of SMPTE 2110, AES67, Dante, NDI, and other IP-based systems
  • Outstanding verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to identify signal parameters and troubleshoot issues using test equipment, including waveform monitors, vector monitors, and audio analyzers
  • College degree in Engineering, Broadcast, or IT
  • Networking Certification coursework
  • Knowledge of IP routing and switches
