About The Position

The Biology Instructor at Frederick Douglass High School is responsible for teaching high school biology to students, fostering their development into mature and responsible individuals. This part-time position (0.5 FTE) involves planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining a conducive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in field of assignment (minimum requirement).
  • Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for area and grade level of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and student needs.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities of students and seeks assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in a fair manner.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for instructional aides and volunteers, evaluating their performance cooperatively with department heads.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
