About The Position

The Family Resource Center is seeking a part-time Teacher Assistant for the Before/After School Care Enrichment Program. This is a 10-month position, operating only during the school year with no summer responsibilities. The working hours are from 7:00-9:00 am and 3:00-5:30 pm, Monday to Friday at Jerome Harrison School, and from 7:00 am to 8:00 am and 2:30 to 5:30 pm at TVES School, with afternoon start times varying based on program needs. The Assistant Teacher will work under the supervision of the Family Resource Center Director and Before/After School Coordinator, responsible for implementing the program's mission and activities for children in grades Pre-K-2 or 3-5, depending on the school assignment.

Requirements

  • Hold an Associate Degree in Early Childhood, or a certificate in early childhood, or a closely related field.
  • Have one year of college-level work and one year of working with school-age children in a similar setting.
  • Have a high school diploma with two years of experience working with school-age children in a similar setting.
  • Be CPR, First Aid, Epi-Pen, and PMT certified or obtain certification upon hire.
  • Complete a tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician's documentation of both.
  • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children.
  • Be customer service oriented and professional.
  • Be warm and nurturing with children.
  • Be patient, flexible, and a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Coordinator and team members to plan group activities to stimulate growth in language, and social and emotional skills.
  • Adhere to positive guidance policies and support co-teachers in meeting the needs of children in the program.
  • Maintain weekly lesson plans that provide children with experiences that build self-esteem and encourage self-reliance.
  • Provide day-to-day support to co-teachers by sharing daily program plans and discussing any issues or concerns.
  • Participate with and actively supervise children at all times.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, special events, or any other after-hours events determined by the Supervisor and Coordinator.
  • Maintain professional growth by completing required professional development trainings.
  • Help maintain a healthy and safe facility by following daily cleaning protocols.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child and model proper program behavior.
  • Maintain and enforce all Program documentation procedures regarding injuries, accidents, and behavior issues.
