About The Position

The Leidos Innovation Center in Arlington, VA is seeking a Computer Engineer Intern specializing in FGPA development for a Summer 2026 Internship. The successful candidate will work with our engineering and production teams as we develop and produce FPGA-based cutting-edge solutions to challenging defense-related problems. As an intern, you will work with experienced engineers in a hands-on environment which offers the opportunity to work on real-world FPGA challenges. You will apply what you have already learned while gaining additional skills and knowledge as you work under the direction (mentorship) of a more senior engineer.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or comparable field
  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering degree program
  • Experience with Linux
  • U.S. citizen - Ability to obtain DoD secret security clearance
  • Experience with at least one FPGA or SoC Integrated Design Environment tool set, such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or comparable field
  • Practical knowledge of lab test equipment and measurement methods
  • Experience in signal processing theory and/or communications systems and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in resolving real world problems
  • Knowledge of Software and Modeling languages such as Matlab, Simulink, C, C++, SystemC, and Python
  • Experience with Linux development, including application development within Petalinux/Embedded ARM development.
  • Analyze schematic diagrams for hardware involving high-speed digital and/or analog circuitry in associated FPGA-centric systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Support analysis, design, implementation, simulation, and test of logic and/or algorithms on FPGAs using hardware descriptor languages (HDL) VHDL, Verilog, and/or System Verilog for state-of-art concept designs and/or fielded systems.
  • Perform design constraints generation and verification as well as evaluate synthesis and timing performance reports.
  • Familiarity with signal processing concepts such as FFTs, channelizers, and digital filters.
  • Assist in compilation and completion of technical documentation.
  • Provide occasional technical support and/or field support planning, and other field support in general if needed.
