The Foundry Operator plays a crucial role in the foundry by assisting in various tasks related to melting metal, pouring it into molds, and preparing castings. This position involves a range of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of the foundry processes. The operator will be actively involved in moving materials such as sand, castings, and flasks around the foundry, as well as assembling flasks and preparing sand molds. This includes watering and mixing sand, shoveling it into flasks, and compacting it to create the necessary molds for metal casting. The operator will also be responsible for applying binder to the surface of sand molds and drying them with a blowtorch to ensure they are ready for use. In addition to preparing molds, the Foundry Operator will weigh and load specified amounts of materials into the melting furnace, skim slag from molten metal, and pour the metal into molds using ladles. The role requires the operator to install and remove steel clamps that hold the flasks together, break sand molds from finished castings, and sort castings for assembly. Cleaning tasks are also part of the job, including removing gates and sprues from castings and maintaining a clean work area. The operator must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating self-motivation and attention to detail.
