About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Foundry Mold Maker & Metal Pourer to join our Research and Development (R&D) Pilot-Scale Foundry team in Dublin, OH. This role focuses on producing small-scale experimental castings, developing new molding and pouring techniques, and assisting in the testing of innovative metal alloys and processes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in mold making and metal pouring, a keen attention to detail, and a willingness to collaborate with engineers and researchers on cutting-edge metallurgical projects.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in foundry operations, mold making, or metal pouring required; experience in an R&D or pilot-scale environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of metal casting techniques, mold-making methods, and metallurgical principles.
  • Ability to adapt to new materials and experimental processes.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (50+ lbs.).
  • Ability to work in high-heat environments.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate forklift and overhead crane.
  • Strong focus on precision and quality in mold making and casting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and foundry best practices.
  • Ability to work closely with engineers, researchers, and production staff.

  • Experience with pilot-scale or prototype casting operations.
  • Knowledge of foundry chemical chemistries.
  • Familiarity with data collection and process documentation in an R&D setting.
  • Certification in foundry or metallurgical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work with researchers to develop and refine mold designs for new materials and processes.
  • Prepare and assemble sand molds based on research needs using up to a 200 pound per minute mixer.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust molds to ensure high-quality, defect-free castings.
  • Operate furnaces to melt and pour various metal alloys, including Grey Iron, Ductile Iron, Steel and Aluminum.
  • Maintain precise temperature control and metal purity during the melting and pouring process.
  • Conduct controlled metal pouring trials, adjusting techniques as needed to achieve desired results.
  • Assist in testing and analyzing casting outcomes, working closely with metallurgists and engineers.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols for handling molten metal and working in high-temperature environments.
  • Perform calibrations and safety inspections.
  • Maintain pilot-scale foundry equipment, including furnaces, ladles, and molding tools.
  • Record process parameters, observations, and outcomes for research documentation.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to analyze results and suggest process improvements.
