If you're passionate about shaping AI-first products, we’d love to hear from you. As a Founding Staff Engineer, you’ll define and implement the core systems powering Synquery. You’ll work hands-on across the stack, contribute to architectural decisions, and guide product-aligned engineering efforts. You’ll also help establish our technical standards, influence hiring, and mentor teammates. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer excited to wear multiple hats—builder, architect, leader—and make foundational contributions to a fast-moving AI product.

Requirements

• 7+ years in full-stack software development, ideally with experience in early-stage or high-growth startups.
• Proficiency in Python (FastAPI), TypeScript (Next.js), PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker.
• Experience with LLM APIs (GPT, Claude, etc.) and/or vector DBs (e.g., Pinecone) is a big plus.
• Strong collaboration with product teams, with an ability to balance speed, quality, and user impact.
• A dynamic, entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving. Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a 'get-it-done' attitude.
• Skilled at designing resilient systems and debugging complex issues in live environments.
• Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with team members from varied cultural backgrounds.
• Strong ability to clearly communicate to both technical and to a lesser extent business audiences.

Responsibilities

• Build Core Systems: Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutions.
• Contribute to the Architecture: Contribute to the technical architecture decisions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance of our systems.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product, design, and ML teams to translate business goals into robust features.
• Advise and Guide: Provide technical guidance when needed to less experienced engineers and help shape a high-performance, collaborative culture.
• Innovate: Leverage emerging technologies in AI/ML, generative AI, and hybrid search to enhance product capabilities.
• Shape Engineering Culture: As a founding team member, influence team practices, tooling, and values from the ground up.
