Founding Data Scientist

Merge APISan Francisco, CA
5h$210,000 - $230,000

About The Position

Merge is the leading provider of agentic tools and customer-facing integrations for frontier LLMs, Fortune 500 organizations, and B2B SaaS companies. Our platform offers two core products: Merge Unified, which enables businesses to add hundreds of integrations to their products with a single API, and Merge Agent Handler, which empowers AI agents with secure access to thousands of third-party tools. Merge's enterprise-grade platform handles the entire integration lifecycle, from authentication and security to monitoring and maintenance. Thousands of companies trust Merge to accelerate product development, unblock sales, reduce customer churn, and save engineering resources—allowing them to focus on their core product. We’re hiring our founding data scientist to help define how data shapes decisions at Merge. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who enjoys being early: setting up the data foundation, digging into real product and business questions, and turning messy inputs into clear direction. You move independently, decide what’s worth digging into, and don’t wait for perfect prompts. You’ll be trusted to take ambiguous problems, form a clear point of view using data, and communicate it concisely—what’s happening, what to do next, and why it matters—so the company can move forward with confidence.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of experience in data science, decision science, or analytics-heavy roles.
  • Proven track record of operating with autonomy in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong fluency in SQL and Python, with comfort reading and modifying production code.
  • Experience designing, building, or owning production data pipelines and data models.
  • Ability to turn messy, incomplete data into clear, decision-ready insight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a concise and opinionated point of view.

Responsibilities

  • Own Merge’s data work end-to-end, from ingestion and modeling to analysis and recommendation.
  • Design, build, and maintain core data pipelines in partnership with engineering.
  • Decide what to measure and why, rather than waiting for questions to be asked.
  • Analyze usage, adoption, reliability, and revenue data to surface opportunities and risks.
  • Deliver clear, actionable recommendations with explicit tradeoffs and success metrics.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO + 10 company holidays
  • Pre-Tax commuter benefits
  • 100% covered health, vision, and dental insurance
  • 401K Plan
  • $200 one-time home office stipend
  • In office snacks and free dinner when working past 7pm
  • Merge is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other protected class.
