This position under limited supervision leads the Metropolitan State University Foundation financial operations. The Foundation Financial Officer prepares all financial statements for the Metro State Foundation and develops and presents all documentation to ensure the financial position of the Foundation is accurately portrayed and reporting requirements are met. This position functions as the chief fiscal officer, and serves to develop, maintain and interpret financial information systems, analyze, interpret and prepare financial data and provide a wide range of clearly defined financial accounting and business-related services including assets, cash flow and budget development and the creation and explanation of the Foundation's financial statements to University officials and Foundation Board members. This position is responsible for developing and training staff on accounting and general operational policies and procedures. This position also acts as the fiscal systems specialist to provide leadership in developing and maintaining the financial computer system software (Financial Edge) used to maintain proper fiscal data management. This position provides lead work direction to the foundation office coordinator as it relates to scholarship administration and administrative support to the Foundation Finance and Audit Committee. It ensures that proper internal controls and financial reporting procedures are in effect and in compliance with state and federal government laws and regulations for the Metro State Foundation. This position is the primary point person for the Foundation's external auditors and performs related work as required.

  • Three years of professional accounting work experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to sufficiently manage the Metro State Foundation's accounting functions and activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and human relations skills required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Foundation Board of Trustees, donors, students, faculty, staff and other constituents.
  • Computer programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must possess demonstrated strong organizational skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable of IRS, state and federal laws regarding fundraising and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of database administration sufficient to maintain, recommend and implement new procedures for accounting system.
  • Prepare, analyze and interpret complex fiscal records and financial reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a minimum of five years of professional accounting work in a non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of fundraising initiatives and development.
  • Working knowledge of financial, statistical, database and spreadsheet software (Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge).
  • Advanced working knowledge Excel.
  • Knowledge of budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish, develop, enhance and communicate multifaceted budget.
