About The Position

We are looking for outstanding and highly motivated Health Care Support Workers who are looking to develop to the next stage of their career, as a Student Nursing Associate (SNA) and are pleased to announce that we are recruiting for our next cohort of the Foundation Degree Nursing Associate Apprenticeship which will commence in September 2025, with the University of Worcester. As a Band 3 SNA, the post holder will work through the Nursing Associate apprenticeship standard, including the attainment of a Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship qualification and will be eligible to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council to work as a Registered Nursing Associate. Over the 24-month programme, the apprentice will work at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and have placements across the wider healthcare community to develop knowledge, skills and competencies to support Registered Nursing Associates, Registered Nurses and other healthcare practitioners. Successful applicants will need to be committed to excelling in patient care, involved in evidence-based practice and supported by their current line manager to undertake this programme. Please note, interviews will be held on 2nd June 2025 as part of a multi stage process.

Requirements

  • Be currently working as a Healthcare Support Worker in a clinical Healthcare based setting and hold a Care Certificate.
  • Hold a certificate of completion for English Language - GCSEs Grade 9-4/A-C OR Level 2 Functional Skills in English.
  • Hold a certificate of completion for Maths - GCSEs Grade 9-4/A-C OR Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths.
  • Hold a level 3 or above qualification in health-related subject or 32 UCAS Tariff Points, from a minimum of 1 A level and a maximum of 3 A Levels.
  • If applicants do not hold a Level 3 or above qualification, in a Health-Related Subject, applicants must be willing to undertake an assignment entry assessment with the University, as part of the recruitment process.
  • Evidence that if English is not the applicants first language that they have a minimum standard of English at IELTS 6 (with no less than 5.5 in any component).
  • Applicants will also need to show evidence of living and working in the UK for 3 years, as this is a requirement for an apprenticeship programme.

Responsibilities

  • Expectation to attend university days at St Johns Campus in Worcester and travel to away placements allocated by the university (this can be up to 1 hour and 15 minutes from your home address or a distance of 29 miles).
  • During the 24 month programme you will be based in a clinical area at GHNHSFT but will experience placements in care settings that include all four fields of nursing: adult, children's, mental health and learning disability.
  • Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence across base and away placements.
  • Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with GHT and NHS Values.
  • Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual.
  • Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting.
  • Work with a Practice Supervisor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the Student Nursing Associate Programme.
  • Undertake regular progress reviews.
  • Work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the Student Nursing Associate programme which includes the attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree qualification.
  • Be employed with GHNHSFT and experience working in alternative settings in order to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme.
  • Develop and improve practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills throughout the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship and maintain all evidence required.
  • Contribute towards developing a culture of learning and innovation, developing high quality learning environments.
