About The Position

The Foster Parent Support, Recruitment, Training and Placement Specialist for Foster Care Services in the District of Columbia (DC) region is responsible for foster parent support and retention, training and placement matching. The Specialist will ensure that foster parents have a healthy fostering community to thrive in as well as provide any need a foster parent may have throughout the fostering process. In addition, the Foster Parent Support, Training and Placement Specialist will manage the intake and placement assignments of foster children/youth and any training needs for the foster parents.

Requirements

  • Excellent engagement and communication skills
  • Knowledge or understanding of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement program
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service profession from an accredited college or university
  • Culturally competent: experience with different cultures, religions, and nationalities.
  • Experience in writing cohesive and coherent court reports, treatment plans, contact notes, and monthly reports.
  • Knowledge of trauma-based practices and working with youth
  • Experience in family therapy and/or trauma informed therapy.
  • Will be required to pass background check in DC and Maryland.
  • Must have reliable and accessible transportation
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • 2 plus years of experience in child welfare
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Experienced in data collection systems
  • Ability to manage time well.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group.

Nice To Haves

  • Trained in Pressley Ridge training module preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Spanish speaking a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular check-ins to offer additional support to foster parents.
  • Provide support to assigned families throughout the licensing and renewal process.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly home visits.
  • Complete and submit reports as required.
  • Attend staffing, hearing and other meetings to address/ support any needs of the foster family.
  • Actively recruit new foster parents for DC foster care programs
  • Conduct regular foster parent support groups.
  • Create and execute events geared towards supporting and recognizing foster parents
  • Coordinate child placements received from contract provider, to include ORR and CFSA.
  • Manage all tasks associated with pre-placement of any youth
  • Facilitate Pressley Ridge pre-service training and specialized Unaccompanied Refugee Minor training to all foster parents
  • Create and facilitate ongoing in-service training to all foster parents
  • Provide training resources for foster parents
  • Process all information through established professional internal and external channels of communications.
  • Assist with the maintenance of case records in accordance with quality assurance standard
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
