Intermountain Blending & Filling, a sister company of Scentsy, is seeking a skilled Formulation Chemist to join our team. This role is pivotal in developing and enhancing personal care and home care formulas tailored to meet the needs of our customers. As the subject matter expert (SME) in formulated products and their raw materials, the Formulation Chemist will be responsible for creating a variety of formulations, including liquids, emulsions, and powders across multiple categories such as personal care, skin care, hair care, home care, cleaning, pet care, spa, and laundry. The position may also involve supervising junior R&D staff, ensuring that the team meets the high standards expected in product development. In this role, you will formulate and facilitate the development of innovative products, line extensions, and product improvements. You will be tasked with identifying and maintaining external partnerships to explore new technologies and conceptual ideas in the personal care and home care sectors. A critical part of your responsibilities will include reviewing current literature on formulations and regulatory aspects to ensure compliance and innovation. You will provide technical support to manufacturing for both new and existing products, managing the scale-up process from R&D lab batches to pilot validation runs in collaboration with the Process Engineering team. This includes overseeing product efficacy and quality throughout the development phase and ensuring a smooth transition to production. Additionally, you will assist the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams in developing test methods for raw materials and finished products, create specifications for various formulation batches, and evaluate potential new chemicals for sourcing based on cost and lead times. Your role will also involve maintaining constant communication with cross-functional teams, including Legal, R&D, and customer Manufacturing teams, to ensure alignment and compliance. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment, managing laboratory equipment, and overseeing inventory supplies. Training and supervising other R&D personnel will be part of your duties, along with providing necessary information and reports to support regulatory and compliance submissions. Overall, this position requires a proactive approach to product development and a commitment to maintaining high standards in formulation chemistry.
