About The Position

The Formation + Teaching Pastor at The Local Church in Grand Rapids will oversee the church's formation and discipleship initiatives while serving as a secondary teaching voice. This role is integral to fostering spiritual growth and community engagement, focusing on connecting individuals to biblical teachings and practices. The pastor will work closely with the Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor, contributing to sermon development and leading various ministry initiatives.

Requirements

• A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life lived in obedience to God's will.
• Spiritual gifts of teaching, leadership, and shepherding.
• 5-7 years of relevant ministry experience, with 1-2 years of regular teaching experience.
• Preferred seminary education.
• Demonstrated ability to create sermons and teach regularly.
• Experience working with teams and overseeing groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Formation and Discipleship for the church.
• Recruit and support Local Group leaders.
• Train new group leaders and launch new groups twice a year.
• Maintain, invest in, and equip current groups and leaders.
• Develop and cast vision for spiritual practices and curriculum.
• Plan and implement various electives focusing on discipleship and formation.
• Oversee the Formation Pathway and its implementation within the church.
• Teach/Preach for main services every 3-6 weeks and other teaching needs as they arise.
• Develop sermon series and organize teaching retreats alongside the Lead Pastor.
• Provide input for sermon series design work and maintain the yearly teaching calendar plan.
• Oversee and direct the Ministry Coordinator(s).
• Organize and execute the annual survey and results for the Ownership process.
• Provide pastoral care as needed, including weddings, funerals, and premarital counseling.
