About The Position

General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout the state of Nebraska and South Dakota. General Excavating specializes in the construction of; underground utilities, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures. General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated and detail oriented Form Setter. This position is responsible for performing tasks associated with concrete form setting, concrete finishing, rebar installation, and dirt work. You will assist the foreman to verify work is in compliance with blueprints and specification and meets quality and safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Perform various formwork related tasks involving physical labor and the use of hand or power tools on heavy civil construction projects. Study blueprints and sketches to construct concrete structures in accordance with project specifications. Ability to read a tape measure and perform simple project layouts accurately. Assemble and fasten materials to build wood and steel forming systems used to cast concrete structures using hand or power tools and screws, nails, or dowel pins. Erect and dismantle forms and other supports for assembling structures above ground level. Align, place and tie reinforcing steel mats and cages of various sizes. Assist with pouring, distributing and finishing concrete. Thoroughly and effectively communicate with foreman and crew members to resolve construction related problems to eliminate delays and maintain efficiency. Promote safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment including compliance with all safety rules and regulations established by the company and project owners. Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and physical exam.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
