About The Position

Eureka Recycling’s Forklift (Machine) Operator performs works in the areas of two departments—sorting and equipment operation. Approximately half of the day will be spent on the sorting line separating recyclable and non-recyclable materials on a conveyor belt. The other half of the day will be spent helping the equipment operator team by running the baler, doing quality audits, and removing contaminants from baled recyclables. This position may involve driving heavy equipment as an auxiliary role, such as moving bales with the forklift. The Forklift Operator works in a collaborative and constructive manner which reflects the values of the organization.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete pre-employment physical and drug screen. Is subject to the Company’s drug-free workplace program.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions and to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Ability to learn from directions, observations and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to interact appropriately with others.
  • Communicate effectively via a two-way radio.
  • Ability to work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Safely sort materials to required standard on sort line and table, meeting our organizational goals of quality and efficiency.
  • Report any safety concerns as near misses in order to prevent injuries and accidents
  • Be prepared to work by arriving to position on the line on time with all PPE in place at the beginning of the shift and after breaks and lunch.
  • Follow the rotation schedule appropriately and with a flexible attitude, willingly switching to a different position when directed.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment and PPE, report malfunctions to supervisor and complete minor repairs as training allows.
  • Maintain a clean work area, keeping it free of debris by sweeping, shoveling, and raking materials as directed.
  • Clean debris off of polishing screens such as plastic bags, hoses, metal strapping, wire and other debris that wraps around the screen shafts.
  • Work courteously and tactfully with employees and supervisors as a cooperative team member.
  • Operate a forklift to move aluminum and other bales from baler and quality sort area.
  • Operate the baler, including documenting bales made, open silos to send material to the baler.
  • Use a hand tool to remove contamination from baled material.
  • Operate a two-way radio to communicate with and receive instructions from a supervisor and communicate with others.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned, responding respectfully to supervisors’ requests.
