The Forklift Operator position involves operating a forklift to move materials, load trucks for customer delivery, and maximize the use of plant space. Requirements

  • Must successfully complete training that includes SMI safety standards and a demonstration of driving ability.
  • Understand and follow specific oral instructions.
  • Ability to bend/twist at the waist for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk on flat or uneven surfaces, up and down stairs and on grass or gravel.
  • Ability to sit at certain workstations or in powered industrial vehicles.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist in lifting heavy loads with others.
  • Ability to extend arms fully.
  • Ability to close both hands to grasp small objects.
  • Ability to reach and grasp for extended periods.
  • Documentation & demonstrated ability to operate Forklift.
  • Documentation & demonstrated ability to operate Electric Pallet Jack.
  • Documentation & demonstrated ability to operate Hand Operated Pallet Jack.
  • Documentation & demonstrated ability to operate Other heavy machinery as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Glass processing knowledge.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating powered industrial vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete training that includes SMI safety standards and a demonstration of driving ability.
  • Operate forklift using safe practices.
  • Inspect forklift prior to shift start and report items that need to be addressed.
  • Use compressed air at the end of each shift to blow out/clean radiator and air filters.
  • Fuel forklift using safe practices.
  • Load and unload trucks with material.
  • Track load count per material processed.
  • Move material to assigned bunkers or staging area.
  • Assist in conducting plant maintenance and repairs.
  • Report incidents/accidents/near miss to shift supervisor and Plant Management and participate in safety investigations related to vehicle operations.
  • Identify any possible cross contamination issues in storage areas.
  • Identify and report to the shift supervisor and Plant Management any potential environmental hazards such as - odors, litter, excessive bird presence, vermin or leachate emanating from storage and other areas of the yard.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Wear appropriate site specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
  • Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.
  • Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
