About The Position

This position involves operating a forklift to move, stack, and organize goods packed on pallets or in crates within a storage facility, adhering to specific storage requirements, shelf-life regulations, and staging procedures. Key responsibilities include ensuring loads are properly secured, performing daily equipment checks (like recharging batteries and lubricating equipment), and unloading incoming materials. The role also entails disposing of waste, locating and moving stock for storage or shipment, identifying damages, and reporting shortages or quality deficiencies. The operator will perform various warehousing duties, including inventory management, examining stored materials for deterioration, and preparing materials for shipment. This role requires operating tools and equipment, conducting inventories using bar code wands, labeling equipment, laser scanning equipment, and/or computer terminals. The position can involve working in both outdoor and indoor environments and requires strict adherence to all safety rules and procedures, including wearing personal safety equipment, and performing necessary housekeeping and maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Twelve months job related experience and/or training is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
  • This position requires the candidate to pass a pre-employment physical examination and urinary analysis.
  • Must be available for any shift.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Responsibilities

  • Moving goods packed on pallets or in crates around the storage facility, according to storage requirements, shelf-life regulations, and staging procedures.
  • Stacking goods in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions.
  • Ensuring loads are properly secure, including performing material handling procedures to correctly stack, palletize, ship, and move material.
  • Stacking and storage of empty pallets, crates, etc.
  • Performing daily equipment checks such as recharging the truck’s battery and lubricating equipment.
  • Unloading materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stacking them to assigned places.
  • Disposal of waste materials/recyclables through the use and movement of machine hoppers, roll-offs, and other required equipment.
  • Locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment.
  • Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
  • Perform a variety of warehousing duties that require an understanding of the establishment’s storage plan.
  • Rearrange and take inventory of stored materials, examines stored materials and reports deterioration and damage.
  • Removes material from storage and prepares it for shipment.
  • This position can alternate between outdoor and indoor environments, potentially exposing employees to environmental hazards.
  • Operate tools and equipment in performance of duties as approved per management.
  • Conducts assigned portions of inventories.
  • Uses bar code wands, labeling equipment, laser scanning equipment, and/or computer terminals.
  • May require a CAC for system access.
  • Operates a manually controlled gasoline, electric or liquid propane gas powered forklift to transport goods and materials of all kinds within a warehouse.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Performs all housekeeping and maintenance duties as needed to ensure workspace upkeep.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, requested, or related, unless otherwise excluded by this description or the established collective bargaining agreement.
  • Continuously developing and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks and serving on safety committees and teams.
  • Conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.
