The forklift operator will operate a forklift safely in support of production operations and document material moved into and out of the production area.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to learn our computer system for entering shipments
  • Ability to manage time to ensure material flow stays consistent within assigned production
  • Forklift operation certification
  • Ability to read a tape measure

Responsibilities

  • Stocks and unloads work stations
  • Ensures dumpsters are emptied at the end of shift or as often as necessary
  • Performs pre-operational check on forklift and processes appropriate documentation
  • Follows safety standards of performance and maintains proper use of all personal protective equipment at all times of operation
  • Produces adequate scoring on forklift operation certification
  • Scores adequately on annual operation re-certification
  • Loads out bound trailer for shipment, documents trailer numbers, carrier, type of pallet, dock, and number of pallets being shipped as needed
  • Places pallets into designated areas for inventory where there are no outbound loads
  • Documents material moved into and out of workstations
  • Ensures quality standards are met
  • Identifies issues affecting quality and reporting all quality issues to supervisor
  • Maintains a smooth flow of material from machines to "work in process" area
  • Maintains a clean tow motor
  • Documents requests for repair to the Maintenance Department
  • Parks tow motor immediately if any safety issues occur
  • Assists in maintaining good housekeeping in area of assignment
  • Stocks and unloads station
  • Ensures dumpsters are dumped at the end of each shift and/or as frequently as necessary
  • Supplies product and documents the number of pallets or lumber run to the staging area
  • Interacts with yard in "work process" area and puts proper material in staging area
  • Maintains the ability to recognize, appreciate, and deal with safety hazards inherent in the work environment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
