The purpose of the Forklift Operator role is to safely and efficiently operate forklifts, handle all inbound and outbound freight properly, maintain an orderly warehouse, and ensure correct staging, checking, and loading of all shipments. This role involves storing stock, providing material handling services for shipping and receiving, picking customer orders from warehouse operations sheets, and maintaining forklift safety according to all policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience with Electric Pallet Jack (EPJ) and Reach Truck.
  • 3-6 months of forklift driving experience in a warehouse using sit down forklifts and Electric Pallet Jacks.
  • Good stable work record.
  • High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED).
  • General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Possess a sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail and quality.
  • Good communication, clear and concise, problem resolution, and people skills.
  • Flexibility to work 10 to 12 hour shifts when necessary and overtime when needed.
  • Not afraid of heights.
  • Major experience on sit down forklifts/EPJs.
  • Experience in building pallets with stock and breaking down stock to fill independent orders.
  • Experience in cross docking freight process.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced warehouse.

Nice To Haves

  • Warehousing certifications a plus.
  • PC skills helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Warehouse Manager to ensure efficient operation of the warehouse.
  • Operate sit down forklift and/or Walkie Rider.
  • Load and unload RJW truck/trailers and outside carriers safely and efficiently using proper procedures.
  • Pick and move stock from 1 lb. to 50 lbs. multiple times.
  • Ensure all shipments are correctly staged and loaded properly.
  • Maintain warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping.
  • Process outbound cross-dock freight as necessary.
  • Oversee proper stock storage in the warehouse and moving product into the storage racks.
  • Work from warehouse operations sheets using a forklift to pick customer orders and load on trailers.
  • Record and verify the accuracy of shipments against paperwork for incoming and outgoing shipments/deliveries.
  • Ensure all documentation and paperwork is properly completed.
  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently following all OSHA regulations, RJW safety policies, and procedures, including wearing seatbelts.
  • Complete daily forklift maintenance inspections.
  • Handle all customer products properly and orderly.
  • Check deliveries for poor packing, general condition of materials, and damage, alerting Warehouse Supervisor of any problems.
  • Report all accidents/incidents, employee injury, stock damage, or building damage to the Shift Supervisor immediately.
  • Spot trailers to maintain efficient yard organization and flow of equipment for the day.
  • Maintain access to dock doors both inside and outside the facility, keeping them free of debris or snow.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by manager.
