About The Position

The Forklift Operator at Martin Sprocket & Gear is responsible for moving products and raw materials to support internal operations. This role involves loading products onto freight, transporting materials, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and participation in safety programs, contributing to a collaborative and innovative workplace.

Requirements

  • Previous experience operating sit-down, propane, and electric forklifts is required.
  • Proficient in maneuvering forklifts and pallet jacks in tight or narrow spaces.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions in English; capable of completing logs and reports accurately.
  • Physically capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning heavy products.
  • Experience with safety programs and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Able to work scheduled hours and adhere to company timekeeping and other policies.
  • Comfortable sitting for the entire shift.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Knowledge of basic warehouse functions and general mechanical skills is a plus.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to assess loads and understand their impact on forklift capacity.
  • Highly accurate and reliable in performing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist work cell operators by transporting raw materials to and from work centers.
  • Remove waste materials and dispose of them in designated dumpsters.
  • Use a forklift or electric pallet jack to move products to the next step in the production process.
  • Load products onto motor freight as needed.
  • Transport finished products to storage or shipping areas.
  • Keep equipment and the work area clean and safe, ensuring proper maintenance.
  • Coordinate production work orders when ready.
  • Monitor inventory levels to meet manufacturing demands.
  • Perform general clerical tasks and other assigned duties.
  • Pick products from warehouse shelves and floor locations.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing all required PPE throughout the shift.
  • Support other departments or areas as needed.
  • Actively participate in safety programs.
