About The Position

This position is for a Diesel Truck/Tractor, Trailer and forklift mechanic responsible for providing maintenance for MEI's fleet of forklifts (ranging from 6k lb. to Versa Lift 60/80k), Peterbilt and KW tractors, and Landoll/KS RGN flatbed trailers. The role involves mid-level mechanic work on diesel vehicles, including routine PM service, brake service, and hydraulic systems. The mechanic will determine vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests, identify worn and damaged parts, and ensure equipment availability by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades, controlling corrosion, and performing winterization procedures. Responsibilities also include verifying vehicle performance through test drives, maintaining vehicle records, keeping shop equipment operational, managing costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service/parts options, and inventorying/ordering supplies. The mechanic is expected to contribute to the maintenance department's reputation by taking ownership of new requests and exploring opportunities to add value, as well as completing daily housekeeping duties in assigned areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years proven fleet mechanic experience (Heavy Equipment and Vehicles)
  • Minimum of 1 year of intermediate skills working in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Mid-level mechanic work on diesel vehicles, routine PM service, brake service and hydraulic systems.

  • Basic knowledge of operating equipment (Forklifts, man lifts, mobile platform lifts, etc.)
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for extensive and complex repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when.
