Position Summary The Forklift Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining propane, diesel, and electric forklifts and other powered industrial trucks used in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe, reliable operation of material handling equipment to support production and warehouse operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2–5 years’ experience in forklift or heavy equipment repair
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and schematics
  • Experience with electrical diagnostics
  • Ability to read technical manuals and service diagrams
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
  • Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
  • Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings and fitness for duty test (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts and powered industrial equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues
  • Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and mast assemblies
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including batteries, charging systems, and wiring
  • Perform hydraulic cylinder repairs and hose replacements
  • Conduct safety inspections in accordance with OSHA standards
  • Maintain service logs and repair documentation
  • Order and manage replacement parts inventory
  • Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns on the production floor
  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards and PPE requirements
