About The Position

The Forestry Technician position is a temporary role focused on wildland fire suppression and management. The technician will operate and maintain specialized firefighting tools and equipment, participate in fire operations, and ensure safety during fire incidents. This role requires working under challenging conditions and may involve overnight travel for fire-related assignments.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a valid state driver's license and ability to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.
• Successfully completed the Primary NWCG Core Requirement of Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).
• Successfully completed the Secondary NWCG Core Requirement of Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290).
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for Wildland Firefighters at the arduous level.
• Subject to medical screening and must meet Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in operating specialized fire suppression equipment such as portable pumps or drip torches.
• Background in forestry, range management, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an experienced firefighter on a hand crew performing fire suppression and fuels management duties.
• Operate and maintain specialized firefighting equipment, including chainsaws and helicopter long lines.
• Conduct all aspects of wildland and prescribed fire operations, including preparation, ignition, monitoring, and mop-up.
• Collect fire weather data and maintain records related to fire incidents.
• Recommend best practices for deploying personnel and equipment during fire incidents.
• Participate in wildland fire and safety training, ensuring safety in all aspects of the assignment.
• Perform standardized forestry support duties for fire, timber, and recreation activities.
• Assist in project work such as road and trail maintenance and habitat manipulation.
