About The Position

The Forestry Technician position serves as a Fire Dispatcher within a National Forest, primarily responsible for supporting fire suppression activities. This role involves receiving, filling, and tracking resource requests for fire and emergency incidents, ensuring effective communication and coordination during critical operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license or a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a dispatching office or related field.
  • Knowledge of fire operations and emergency incident management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a dispatcher, receiving, filling, and tracking resource requests for fire and other emergency incidents.
  • Follow established procedures to perform technical duties related to the dispatch of personnel, equipment, aircraft, and supplies.
  • Initiate requests for additional resources as needed from higher organizational levels.
  • Maintain resource status and tracking systems and operate telecommunications systems.
  • Collect, process, collate, and submit incident information to support fire operations.
  • Organize and review completed records of all orders placed and actions taken to ensure adherence to established procedures.
  • Process and interpret weather information to determine burning indices and staffing levels for suppression resources.
  • Input data into fire-related computer applications and assess outputs.
  • Provide logistical support information to supervisors and make recommendations on resource use.
  • Record and maintain communication logs.
  • Coordinate and assist with fire and aviation operational training and simulations.
  • Gather information for the development and maintenance of dispatch mobilization guides.
