About The Position

The Forestry Technician (Smokejumper) position is a temporary role within the National Forest Service, primarily focused on fire management. Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must have a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL) may be required.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for Wildland Firefighters at the Arduous level.
• Must meet the Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty wildland firefighting.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a Squadboss on a Fire Crew, Helitack Crew, or Pump Crew.
• Previous experience in wildland fire suppression using basic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform parachute jumps from various aircraft under diverse conditions.
• Execute landings on rough terrain, open areas, mountain slopes, or timber.
• Engage in wildland fire suppression duties using hand and power tools such as Pulaski, shovel, chain saw, and McLeod.
• Serve as Initial Attack Fireboss when assigned, determining fire strategy and making work assignments.
• Review work performance and complete fire and time reports.
• Participate in annual refresher training in parachute jumping, firefighting, and use of specialized tools.
• Travel to fire assignments using various modes of transportation including parachute, foot, truck, bus, and helicopter.
• Assist in other resource management activities such as recreation, timber, or reforestation when not engaged in fire suppression.
