About The Position

The Forestry Technician (Fuels Specialist) position at the Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, involves preparing and implementing prescribed fire plans, fire effects monitoring plans, manual and mechanical hazardous fuels treatments, and smoke and wildland fire use monitoring plans. The role includes researching the effects and behavior of prescribed fire to assist in developing short-term fire management objectives and strategies. The technician will develop and recommend plans for various operational projects, evaluate existing or new regional or forest-wide plans for fuels management, fire prevention, and fire protection programs. Additionally, the position requires planning, conducting surveys, and evaluating data to develop prescriptions for prescribed fire and wildland fire use, as well as conducting fuels management surveys to document the presence, amount, and types of hazardous fuels.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management positions.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Physical or medical examination may be required.
