About The Position

The Forestry Technician (Fire) position is part of the Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, focusing on prescribed fire and fuels management projects. Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Successful completion of one-year probationary period.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• This is a drug testing designated position.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain positions.
• Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate level coursework in forestry, range management, or agriculture.
• Experience in prescribed fire operations including line preparation and ignition strategies.
• Experience in collecting and compiling fuels management field inventory data.

Responsibilities

• Serve on prescribed fire and fuels projects.
• Provide routine technical guidance on fire protection and prevention issues.
• Participate in the NEPA data gathering process for fire/fuels management.
• Support training needs for prescribed fire and fuels management programs.
• Participate in wildland fire and safety training.
• Operate a variety of motor vehicles to transport equipment and crew members.
• Position equipment safely in appropriate locations.
