About The Position

The Forestry Technician (Fire Training Specialist) position involves direct interaction with agency administrators and staff personnel at all levels of Federal and State agencies involved with Fire and Aviation Management and wildland fire suppression and management. The role includes reviewing and modifying course materials and plans for specific audiences, serving in various capacities such as Course Development Coordinator, Needs Analysis Evaluator, Curriculum and Instructional Design Coordinator, or Evaluation Coordinator. The technician will also conduct on-the-job Fire Suppression and Incident Management training evaluations as a member of overhead teams on project wildfires. Additionally, the position requires the application of National, Interagency, and Regional fire and aviation regulations, policies, procedures, goals, organizations, functions, and operations. The technician will serve as an instructor for Interagency, Regional, and Interregional Fire and/or Aviation Management courses and will plan and administer a diverse range of fire and fuels management field and program operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a drug testing designated position; subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Physical or medical examination.
