About The Position

The Forestry Technician (Airtanker Base) position is a temporary role within the National Forest Service, primarily focused on supporting fire management operations. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining airtanker bases, aircraft ramps, facilities, vehicles, and equipment, while also participating in various aviation and ground support activities related to fire suppression efforts.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must have a valid state driver's license or a commercial driver's license (CDL).
• Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
• Must meet Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty wildland firefighting.
• Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with wildland fire suppression and control activities.
• Knowledge of airtanker equipment servicing and minor repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operates complex airtanker equipment systems that require careful synchronization or calibration.
• Performs aviation and ground support activities, including servicing and operating batch mixers, tanks, and related components such as pumps, valves, and hoses.
• Mixes, stores, inspects, tests, and delivers fire retardants according to specifications.
• Assists in airtanker 'Hot Loading' operations.
• Computes, compiles, and summarizes data for the preparation of Forestry Service reports and records.
