About The Position

The Forestry Intern position at the Pinchot Forest District offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in forest management while supporting experienced forestry professionals. Interns will engage in various activities related to timber measurement, boundary surveying, and data collection, contributing to the conservation and management of Pennsylvania's forested lands.

Requirements

  • Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program in Forestry, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Studies, Environmental Ecology, or Environmental Science.
  • Completion of freshman year.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Support experienced forestry professionals in measuring timber volumes.
  • Perform reproduction studies in designated areas.
  • Survey and mark boundaries for timber sales.
  • Gather field data and enter it into databases.
  • Participate in ground verification and spraying initiatives.
  • Contribute to forest fire prevention and suppression efforts.
