About The Position

The Forestry Aid position is a temporary role within the National Forest Service, primarily focused on wildland fire suppression and management. As a crewmember on a fire crew, the individual will engage in various firefighting activities, including fireline construction and the use of firefighting equipment. The role requires physical fitness and the ability to work in remote locations, with responsibilities extending to other resource management activities when not engaged in fire suppression duties.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must have a valid state driver's license or a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for Wildland Firefighters at the Arduous level.
• Must meet Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in wildland firefighting or related fields.
• Knowledge of fire suppression techniques and safety rules.
• Familiarity with the use of firefighting equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments to develop knowledge of fuels management and fire suppression techniques.
• Construct firelines and utilize pumps, engines, and hoses for firefighting.
• Extinguish burning materials by applying water or using backpack pumps.
• Move dirt, chop brush, and fell small trees to build firelines using hand tools.
• Patrol firelines to locate and extinguish sparks and flare-ups.
• Clean, recondition, and store fire tools and equipment.
• Assist in other resource management activities such as recreation and reforestation when not engaged in fire suppression.
