About The Position

Mendocino Redwood Company, LLC (MRC) is seeking a Forester, RPF to join their forestry team based in Ukiah, CA. This is an exempt position at an annual salary of $102,000.00 and includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, company paid Life Insurance and 401K match. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant. The Forester RPF primary duties include Timber Harvest Plan (THP) preparation, contract administration, timber marking supervision, road system management, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and the long-term sustained yield of high value timber products. The position requires working in a wide range of weather and field conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year College or University.
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • This position requires the candidate to possess a Registered Professional Foresters license.
  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver's license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles including automobiles and trucks in accordance with company policy guidelines.
  • With appropriate training, an individual must be capable of safely and effectively operating (run, maneuver, navigate and drive in various types of territory) all-terrain vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • The employee must have ability to use directional compass and topographical maps.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ARC GIS suite of products.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and prepares the Timber Harvest Plan by performing research, organizing, and analyzing field data, preparing the THP maps, analyzing air photos, and contacting outside resources if needed.
  • Travels throughout the area defined in the THP and identifies unstable areas.
  • Flags boundaries of the area defined in the THP.
  • Records water course classifications, lake and protection zones and other relevant data as required to conform to the THP.
  • Conducts surveys including botanical, archeological, raptor and spotted owl.
  • Prepares field notes to use in writing the THP.
  • May be called on to oversee and administer vegetation and reforestation projects as needed.
  • Administers field operations including designing and building roads and logging activity.
  • Marks timber and trains others to mark timber.
  • Directs work of Seasonal Forestry Technicians and others as assigned.
