About The Position

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Forest Ranger (Wildland Firefighter) to work in forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, and pre-suppression. The position involves providing technical forestry services and information to landowners and wood-using industry representatives, assisting with state lands management, and presenting forestry educational programs. The incumbent will operate and maintain various kinds of equipment in the suppression of wildfires, investigate wildfire causes, gather evidence, and conduct inspections. The role also includes public awareness initiatives regarding wildfires and wildfire damage, as well as performing maintenance and construction activities on fixed facilities and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • No convictions related to certification, perjury, or felonies.
  • Submit a fingerprint card with a processing fee.
  • Good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
  • Non-user of tobacco products for at least one year.
  • Possession of a valid driver license.
  • Obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within three months of appointment.
  • Certificate of Compliance as Firefighter.

Responsibilities

  • Perform forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, and pre-suppression.
  • Provide technical forestry services and information to landowners and industry representatives.
  • Assist with state lands management and present forestry educational programs.
  • Operate and maintain fire suppression equipment including engines and bulldozers.
  • Investigate wildfire causes and gather evidence.
  • Conduct inspections and issue Notifications of Violations.
  • Intensify public awareness of wildfires through educational programs.
  • Perform wildfire hazard mitigation work.
  • Respond to all-risk emergency incidents as required.
  • Provide technical forestry assistance under supervision.
  • Assist in public lands management activities.
  • Maintain public facilities such as trails and campgrounds.
  • Perform maintenance and construction activities on fixed facilities.
