About The Position

PRT is seeking a Forest Nursery Specialist. The position will participate in the management and production of 24+ million containerized seedlings and 35+ million bareroot forest seedlings annually. Activities will include seed stratification and treatment, planting, irrigation, fertilizer/chemical application, and harvesting. PRT’s seedlings are positioned to be the highest quality in the industry and are distributed across the Southeast. Our efforts are focused on high quality seedlings with good survivability and growth characteristics second to none. In this position, your primary focus will be the bareroot seedlings but will share time with the container seedling crop as well. You will work on a team of four Nursery Technicians, Nursery Supervisor, and report to the Nursery Manager. Each season will bring new goals and challenges. During the spring, you’ll be focused on field preparation and planting. During the summer, your efforts will shift to growing, fertilizing, and irrigation. In the fall and winter, you will be involved in the harvest of our seedlings. As a Nursery Technician, you’ll have the opportunity to operate forklift, farm tractors, seedling lifter, and various other nursery equipment. You will also operate spray-rigs and fertilizer injection equipment in a safe and productive manner and assist with daily tasks necessary to maintain equipment, buildings, and development of the seedling crop.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical skills with farm equipment, tractors, vehicles, conveyors, pumps, and motors preferred.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, electrical, welding, and irrigation operation preferred.
  • Strong people management skills and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Customer driven and oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols in a nursery environment.

Responsibilities
