Click here. What we are looking for: The Reforestation Unit Forester will plan, organize, direct, monitor and administer reforestation activities on State Forests in the Astoria District. Duties include: Supervising, directing, and monitoring the work of skilled, technical, and professional employees assigned to the Reforestation Unit. Provides assessment, analysis, and monitoring of activities for meeting Forest Management Plan goals and strategies, and District Implementation Plan objectives. Develops and implements Annual Operations Plans. Assists with fiscal and biennial budgets for the reforestation unit including the recreation program by developing cost estimates and tracking of expenditures on a project basis to ensure fiscal accountability. Determines adequate staffing level requirements and makes recommendations to accomplish reforestation unit objectives. Responsible for meeting district reforestation objectives ensuring compliance with the Oregon Forest Practices Act and the Northwest Oregon Forest Management Plan. Supervisory duties include administering and reviewing the progressive discipline process, responding to grievances, completing, and reviewing performance appraisals, completing position descriptions, developing and reviewing work plans and Individual Learning Plans, hiring of seasonal and permanent employees. Plans, schedules, approves and provides training, maintaining current training records.

Requirements

  • Five years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with: a) development of program rules and policies b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
  • Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
