About The Position

The Forest Biometrician at Weyerhaeuser plays a crucial role in the Southern Timberlands Planning & Inventory team, focusing on developing strategic harvest plans and improving inventory quality. This position requires strong consulting skills and the ability to work collaboratively across various levels of the organization, with a mix of office and field work.

Requirements

  • Masters degree (or higher) in Forest Biometrics, Biometrics, Quantitative Silviculture or a related field
  • OR a Bachelors degree in Forest Management, Natural Resources or related field with at least 8 years of experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience in statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of silviculture and growth-and-yield models applicable to the region
  • Knowledge of regional, state and federal laws and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) objectives
  • Working knowledge of GIS software

Nice To Haves

  • Programming skills in higher level computer language (C , Access, SQL, R)
  • Experience in harvest scheduling, forest biometrics or inventory management
  • Experience with REMSOFT's Woodstock Modeling Platform, including spatial planning tools

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term strategic harvest schedules
  • Consult with Unit Managers to support tactical marketing and harvesting opportunities
  • Work with the Regional Inventory Analyst to support inventory design and improve inventory efficiency
  • Interact with internal software application developers who build and maintain database systems
  • Assist during third-party SFI audits
  • Attend meetings and maintain active relationships with university cooperatives
  • Analyze new growth models for inventory, harvest scheduling, and habitat conservation planning
