About The Position

The Forest Assistant Fire Management Officer (FAFMO) is responsible for performing administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. This role includes providing leadership, coordination, and direction for the administration of fire suppression, detection and prevention programs, dispatching services, fuels/vegetation management, and aviation management. The FAFMO establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, ensuring clear communication through the formal employee performance management system. Additionally, the officer leads the fire safety program based on doctrinal principles, ensuring adequate review, analysis, and reporting after incidents, accidents, or near misses. The FAFMO assists the Forest Fire Management Officer (FFMO) in directing a complex fire management program.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a drug testing designated position; subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing or assisting with a wildland and/or prescribed fire management program.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing fire program budgets.
  • Experience maintaining relationships with external entities regarding fire management.

Responsibilities
