About The Position

The Foreperson is responsible for leading a utility line clearance tree trimming crew: managing daily operations at job sites, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and client expectations. The role involves hands-on tree work, supervision of crew members, coordination with utility representatives, and operation of CDL-required equipment.

Requirements

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B or higher with air brakes endorsement (Class A preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in utility line clearance tree trimming, including 1+ year in a leadership or foreperson role.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI Z133, OSHA 1910.269, and utility safety protocols.
  • Proven experience operating aerial lifts, chippers, chainsaws, and other industry-standard equipment.
  • Ability to perform tree work in proximity to energized conductors.
  • Physical ability to climb trees, lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and work in all weather conditions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and crew management skills.
  • Must be able to read work orders, interpret maps, and plan daily operations.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime, including storm and emergency response duties.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a tree trimming crew performing utility line clearance work around energized power lines.
  • Enforce compliance with ANSI Z133 and OSHA safety standards, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Conduct job briefings, hazard assessments, and ensure appropriate use of PPE and safe work practices.
  • Perform tree climbing, aerial lift work, pruning, removals, and rigging techniques near utility conductors.
  • Operate and drive CDL-class vehicles such as bucket trucks, chip trucks, and log loaders.
  • Communicate with utility representatives, project managers, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and daily performance oversight for crew members.
  • Complete necessary documentation including timesheets, job logs, and hazard reports.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are maintained, inspected, and used correctly.
  • Respond to storm emergencies or after-hours work as required.
