We are currently seeking an additional experienced Mechanical Engineer / Vehicle Accident Reconstructionist to support operations in the Carolinas and South Georgia. In this position, the Vehicle Accident Reconstructionist will apply their technical knowledge and expertise to provide failure analysis and forensic consulting services for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients, investigating vehicle accidents and failures involving vehicle systems (brakes, transmission, throttle, steering, etc.).

  • Perform failure analysis and forensic assignments within the field of mechanical engineering expertise based on a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client.
  • Investigate how and why an incident occurred, including identifying the origin, failure mechanism, and root cause of the incident.
  • Inspect sites/products/equipment/systems; perform electronic data retrieval and analysis; document site/product conditions; perform site surveys with total station survey, scanners, drones, and other means of 3D documentation.
  • Conduct various analyses including industrial safety and accidents; equipment and machinery design and failure; product liability, and design and safety.
  • Provide support on fire and explosion investigations involving mechanical systems, products, and equipment.
  • Reconstruct vehicular accidents using analysis, CAE-based tools, and test data.
  • Analyze single and multiple vehicle collisions, perform damage analysis, speed analysis, and roadway drag factors.
  • Prepare reports and present findings to clients, including demonstrative diagrams and charts.
  • Document and preserve evidence, prepare written reports of findings, and provide expert testimony in litigation as necessary.
  • Evaluate cars, trucks, tractors, or other various forms of transportation.
  • ACTAR Accreditation required.
  • 8+ Years Experience VAR/Mechanical required.
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering required.
  • P.E. licensed preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Physically able to climb ladders, walk on uneven surfaces, and work in confined spaces.
  • Project Management and/or Field Investigation experience required strongly preferred.
  • Experience in forensic engineering.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office and computer-assisted engineering and design software.
