About The Position

The Forensic Scientist position at the Arkansas Department of Public Safety involves the examination of evidence submitted by law enforcement personnel. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a natural science or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in a forensic laboratory.
  • Knowledge of forensic analysis principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and agency policies governing forensic activities.
  • Ability to write descriptive results of analysis and appear as an expert witness in court.

  • Knowledge of programming, server networks, and network security.
  • Discipline and tool certification (e.g., IACIS-CFCE, Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom) after employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of mobile devices, computer-based systems, hard drives, digital storage devices, and vehicle infotainment systems in a laboratory environment.
  • Examine law enforcement submitted evidence in a forensically sound manner using generally accepted techniques and validated procedures.
  • Prepare statements and forensic reports of findings for criminal proceedings.
  • Articulate findings in court as an expert witness.
  • Design and conduct a series of analytical tests including chemistry, biology, digital evidence analysis, latent print analysis, and firearms/toolmarks analysis.
  • Document evidence and prepare detailed reports of findings detailing analytical methods and techniques used to support conclusions for submission to legal authorities and courts of law.
  • Research scientific literature and exchange information with peers to stay current with the latest scientific advances in the analysis of criminal evidence.
  • Participate in the laboratory's proficiency testing program.
  • Provide training, technical support, and consultation to law enforcement officers/agencies, attorneys, and other public officials and citizens of the state.
  • Conduct crime scene investigations as requested by law enforcement agencies.
