The Opportunity The position of Forensic Scientist II, Screening is within our Toxicology division located at Gretna, LA. This role will be responsible for operating the instruments used to perform the initial analysis of urine specimens for substances of abuse with the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations. Shift: 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm Monday to Friday

Requirements

  • BS degree in science or equivalent related field
  • 1-3 years’ experience
  • Detail oriented
  • Multitasking
  • Good documentation practices

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
  • Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
  • Advanced ability to understand certification requirements for SAMSHA, CAP-PUDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Basic ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
  • Basic understanding of drugs that are tested

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of the Screening Instrument and initial review of data.
  • Perform moderate and high complexity testing.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot issues with screening instruments.
  • Knowledge of nomenclature and assay cutoffs.
  • Knowledge of screening methods.
  • Adherence to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information.
  • Adherence to all established guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook.
