  • Examine and process evidentiary samples for bodily fluids and DNA using various techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret DNA data using manual and software-based platforms.
  • Prepare technical reports based on results and conclusions.
  • Perform statistical analyses and complete technical reviews of casework.
  • Provide expert testimony in court.
  • Complete technical and administrative reviews of casework completed by others.
  • Log laboratory requests and transfer evidence.
  • Communicate with detectives and prosecutors about case information.
  • Train other forensic scientists.
  • Serve as project leader for laboratory projects.
  • Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science-related area with specific coursework in forensic science, chemistry, biology, and computer science.
  • Three years of recent forensic laboratory experience with authorization to perform DNA Profile Determination and related tasks.
  • A master's degree may substitute for one year of experience; a doctorate may substitute for two years.
  • Proficiency in public speaking.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
