Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in natural sciences (Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, or Physics).
• Successful completion of on-the-job training to attain full competence as a forensic analyst within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Analyze biological specimens and organic and inorganic substances.
• Prepare solutions for testing and operate laboratory equipment.
• Maintain proficiency in established protocols and procedures, including quality assurance and safety measures.
• Determine the presence and collection of biological and trace evidence from submitted samples.
• Prepare reports on laboratory tests and communicate results to customers.
• Engage in on-site scene processing to document and collect evidence for laboratory analysis.
• Handle chemicals and prepare solutions while adhering to safety precautions.
• Conduct quality control testing on equipment and reagents.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment according to documented procedures.
• Adhere to quality assurance measures and accreditation standards.
• Provide expert testimony in court regarding testing methods and results.
• Assist with validation studies and conduct administrative reviews of casework.
• Undergo periodic reviews to meet training benchmarks and competency tests.
