The North Dakota State Hospital (NDSH), located in Jamestown, is a specialized psychiatric hospital that serves the whole state. Services focus on psychiatric rehabilitation, residential substance use disorders treatment, and residential treatment for sexually dangerous individuals. The NDSH is a Joint Commission accredited facility which serves adult psychiatric, chemically dependent, and secure service populations to maintain or enhance their quality of life with dignity and respect. When each one of our clients walk through the door, we are sure to let them know 'we are committed to your mental health and wellness, and we want your stay to be as safe, helpful and comfortable as possible'. Those are the individuals we serve, those that are unable to currently help themselves, we provide them a safety net at NDSH. The NDSH is seeking an ambitious and determined Psychologist who has experience conducting assessments and providing treatment services to those with serious persistent mental illness. Among other duties, you will be responsible to provide court testimony and serve as an expert witness in court-related legal activities as well as have the ability to use sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement, identify innovative solutions, and solve complex problems and communicate difficult concepts. Experience in forensic assessment and conducting evaluations is advantageous to succeed in this position. You will be a member of a multidisciplinary team who will encourage and support you to continue to grow professionally up to and including continuing the path to becoming the Clinical Director. NDSH is a teaching site for the Department of Psychology, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and also works with students from the School of Pharmacy, North Dakota State University. If selected, you will have the opportunity to work with staff members ranging in experience from recent completion of doctoral programs and internships to those with decades of experience with the severely mentally ill.

  • Conduct assessments and provide treatment services to individuals with serious persistent mental illness.
  • Provide court testimony and serve as an expert witness in court-related legal activities.

  • Solve complex problems and communicate difficult concepts.
  • Doctorate in Psychology.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist by the ND Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • Two years' experience as a Licensed Psychologist.
  • Experience in forensic assessment and conducting evaluations.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Interest in professional growth towards becoming the Clinical Director.
