About The Position

Inova Cornwall Forensic Assessment and Consultation Teams (FACT) is looking for a dedicated Forensic Nurse Examiner to join the team. This role will be PRN; department hours are 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 a.m. M-Su. Must be able to work 48 hours every 8-week scheduling period. Shifts range from 6-12 hours - self-scheduling. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Minimum of 6 months of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
  • BLS from AHA for Healthcare Provider certification required; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others.
  • Proficient computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Prior experience in forensic nursing.
  • RN licensed in the state of VA.
  • Completion of accredited SANE adult & pediatric course upon start.
  • Completion of accredited SANE courses through IAFN within 30 days of start or transfer. Both Adult & Pediatric course completion required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a forensic medical assessment, collects appropriate forensic evidence, provides psychological support, and offers referrals for follow-up and counseling.
  • Testifies in the court system as an expert in the field of sexual assault and physical violence.
  • Requires travel to other jurisdictions/ facilities as warranted including other medical facilities, courts and detention center environments.
  • Provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patient, family, nurse, and healthcare delivery teams.
  • Conducts all patient care in a patient and family-centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education.
  • Serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment, and successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality, through relationships and access-based knowledge.
  • Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.
