Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analyst I is the entry-level position in the friction ridge section at the Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratories. A Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analyst I learns to perform a wide variety of tasks associated with the examination, collection, and preservation of latent (unknown) fingerprint ridge detail and the subsequent comparison with known finger and palm print exemplars in an attempt to establish identity. The presence of Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analysts may be required at crime scenes to assist with evidence gathering and processing, and at autopsies to attempt to identify unknown deceased persons. Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analyst I responsibilities also include court testimony, receipt of evidence and occasional travel, and other duties as assigned.
